How to Play Mini Room Maker (plus Other Room Maker/Doll Maker Games) in Current Year (2022)
11/20/2022
So, my most popular post on this blog turns out to be the one where I talk about the mini room maker game, I didn't know it at the time, but it turns out alot of people also used that site back in the day. While reminsicing about the good old days I had with the site, I forgot to mention how I made it work for myself in current year. I think some people how saw the post were a bit confused since I didn't only use my own screenshots of pixel scenes I made myself in current year, but I also used screenshots of pixel scenes from back then too. I completely understand the confusion, I mean heck I was confused too, because like I said I forgot to mention or least stress that you can STILL play the mini room maker game in current year through the wayback.
It wasn't until a commenter emailed me a way to play the old dressup/room maker games on wayback, that I decided to make a post about it for others to enjoy, I would like to thank Sekayi for reminding me about this method on how to play the mini room maker game, without you I probably would have completely forgot that I didn't mention that in as much detail as I should have in my previous post.
Onto the tutorial...
Playing the mini room maker game, and most of the other room maker and dress up games in current year is pretty simple....
1. Go to Wayback Machine, and Type "http://www.miniroommaker.com/" in the search bar, and click the Browse History Button
2. Select a year you remember using the site the most, or just select a time frame from the site's most popluar years (2005-2008)
3. Wait for the page to load, it might take a while, but once your page looks like this, then you're ready to start playing!
(Click on the image for a better view)
You could do all that or you could just click this link right here: https://web.archive.org/web/20080717001615mp_/http://www.miniroommaker.com/rooms.html and bookmark it (this is a screenshot from 2008, but again it still works).
The works just like it did back in 2008, when selecting a category it will take a while (maybe a min or 2 depending on the amount of assets in a category) , but once it does load you should get a message from the site saying everything is now ready to go.
If you want take a screenshot of your pixel scene DONT press the 'Save and Download' button, because when selected the page will load as if it's working but it will lead to an error page, and any progress you made on your pixel scene will be lost and you'll have to start over...
Although the save button doesn't work, it does lead you to an interesting place that I'll talk about later, for now, its best if you just use Snip and Sketch (or whatever screen grab program you have on your device) to take a pic. If you can't find/ dont have a screengrab program you can use this one I found that works for both firefox and chromium-based browsers: https://nimbusweb.me/screenshot.php .
I said in my older post that the theme makers (summer, halloween, winter, etc) didn't work at the time I made that post, but I went back to check out them now and they seem to work now. In fact all (if not most ) of the makers (doll and room) seem to work just fine....
Okay, actually the summer one's assets are still missing but you can make some banger scene with ones present in the maker. Other makers have missing assets too because the wayback can also can only catch some much, but I dont think any of the makers are broken beyond use (at least the ones I came across).
(These are the makers I used the most when I was younger, and they're still my favorite. They can be found in the list of room makers above)
While poking around the site with the wayback I decided to check out some makers I never checked out before, and I found some interesting ones...
This hello kitty one is pretty one, along with this Rilakkuma one, which I didn't even know one existed back then....
This superhero one looks pretty cool, some of the pixels give me big MUGEN vibes, if anyones ever played that fighting game or at least Marvel vs. Capcom...
Kind of random, but I found this mini stamp maker, I thought this stamp maker would be in the similar vibe to the stamps that can be found on Deviantart, the ones that would say funny slogans/memes, or be themed around a certain fandom or character, but nope, its just regular postage stamps, still pretty cute tho.
Another random but still cute one is this Koa ani maker, a Koa ani is a emoji that's suppose to look like a ball of mochi, they come in different colors, types of animals, and some are even modeled after specific characters like Hello Kitty or Naruto.. ( I don't want to derail this post, here's a post explaining Koa ani, if you're interested (X) )
Again, this maker is a bit broken but you can make something cute with it which is all that matters...
There are other makers out there, but you can explore them on your own, which is half the fun in my opinion. Now, let's talk about the script that goes in to making one of these room maker games...
I remember when I mentioned the save button error page leads to an interesting place, well that place is the page all about the script for the maker game.
I was going to make another part of this tutorial on how to make a room maker using this script, but for the life of me I couldn't figure it out, I'm pretty sure the code still works since the makers still work, I'm just not that code savvy enough to figure it out. I'll probably update this post or make an entire new post about how to make a 2000s -like room maker game in current year, but this is not that post.
The script page has another version of the copy and paste of the code, but more customizable and advanced....
I tried to use it to see if I could make my own room maker (just as a test) and I was completely oof'ed on how to get it to work, so again, I'm going to save that for another post or another day..
The script page had a list of sites that used the doll maker script, and low and behold the mini room maker was the 3rd on the list for most popular room maker game.
At the time this screenshot was taken Candydoll Maker was at the top, which makes sense because I remember that doll maker game being very popluar at one point. The Candydoll Maker can be played with the wayback too, it just that it takes a while to load due to all of the props the maker has to load, some of them dont show but it still works.
And that's how you get Mini Room Maker and other makers to work in current year, this fix should work for now, if anything happens I'll make another post with a new method. If you don't want to use the wayback machine, there is a room maker game that currently in development made by Arunyi called Dream Room. The webmaster has most of the assets/props up but just doesn't have a build area to display them properly, I'm not sure when this project will be completely but I have hope in the webmaster that they can finish it. I want to thank the commenter, Maddie for telling about this promising project:
Anyway, that's all I have to say, I hope you find this post helpful and thanks for listening to my rambles inbetween the helpful bits, I don't know if this post will be as popular as the original one, I only hope it is so anyone interested in room makers/dress up games knows what's up.
Until next time, later days~<3
